This project was initiated with the prime objective of developing a robust mechanism to facilitate hassle free sale of goods and services of self-employees and on the other hand to ease the difficulty faced by potential consumer in reaching the targeted seller (Self employee) in fulfilling their diverse needs.
According to the Labour Force Survey of 2017, out of the total labour force in the province the percentage distribution of self-employees in the Colombo, Gampaha and Kaluthara districts was reported as 23.7%,25% and 25.1% respectively.
After analyzing the diverse areas of self-employment sector in the province it was revealed that the most vital issue faced by self-employees in the province, is their inability to set up a marketing mechanism or channel to advertise their products & services.
When we looked in to the demand perspective of the market many of the consumers of the general public is having a similar issue in finding certain service providers such as masons, plumbers, gardeners, cleaners, babysitters etc. Although there are companies who facilitate such services it is practically impossible for a middle class person to pay the high rates that they would offer. So this project delivers a fruitful solution in bridging the gap between seller and buyer.
How the project operates
The project will operate over a period of five years in five (05) phases and the first phase will be launched in year 2019.During the first phase it was able to develop a database of approximately 10,000 self employed people scattered in the province and a total of 20,000 telephone directories have been published and distributed among potential users.
The information collected via divisional secretarial offices, of self-employees who are engaged in variety of self employments in the province are to be distributed through the mediums of printed telephone directory, website and mobile applications.
Thus the Diriyata Hetak project will open up a massive market for self-employed while consumers being exposed to multiple service providers with varied prices to select from, in meeting their diverse requirements.
Diretcory Referance Mediums
20000 copies of the printed directories will be distributed throughout the public & private sector offices & selected locations in the western province.
Web portal Telephone Directory is a web based electronic platform which allows global access to the directory.
In keeping with the fast-growing information and communication technology, access to the directory has been so simplified that the directory information is now available as mobile applications which can be downloaded to smartphones, tabs etc., (Android or Apple) free of charge.
